zdavesf I doubt all 5 of your Ic's are faulty.... but it can happen.

why not post your code and we can what whats going on (include what you call to initialize the MCP, intcon, defval addresses etc...)

I am using the MCP23S17 interfaced with PIC18F8527. In general it all work fine but when I try to read a port, sometimes the value that I ge is the wrong value. May this be a software issue or is simply that all my 5 MCPs are faulty?
