Hi
Can anyone give me explain about what is the transformer isolation, in enc28j60 datasheet exists that the center tap transformer should be rated for isolation of 2KV or more to pprotect against static voltage>> how i can put 2KV and what it is<
please give me answers

Don't worry about it. This value tells you that 2kV would destroy your isolation of the transformer between primary and secondary side. All transformers for use with ethernet are rated to this value or above.

If you want to be sure, use a SI-40138 MagJack from Stewart, it has an integrated transformer that can be used with the ENC28J60

I think the reference on the diagram you are refering to is a 0.001uF Capacitor that is rated to 2kV and attached to the center tap.

Is that what your after?

yes that is Ian, but which is better using ethernet rj45 with transformer or connect the transformer to the rj45>>
hope that the question clear...

Transformer with built in magnetics reduces the component count on your board and should reduce the noise etc in your circuit. If use an external transform it is important to make sure the track are short and wide and the connections are all good. Using built in magnetics gets rid of these problems.

there is one RJ plus transformer on Farnell (www.farnellinone.com) , I looked at it some days ago, it's the one I'm willing to use in the future. around 7$

Hi all,

I am ready to start my project.

As MCU I have 18F4620 and of course ENC26J80 for ethernet. I would like to know if I can use 20F001N as transformer instead the component that Ian is using in his schematic. Do you think is a good replacement?

I tried to find some rj45 connectors with integrated magnetics, but I did not any for the moment. I want to give it a try with the one mentioned above.

I would like your opinion about this.

Thanks,

Chrys
