Depends on how much you want to spend. You can just buy them direct from Microchip, or from farnell in case you havnt used these before, they are the best option by far, but they cost roughly £100 each.

However at the moment I am currently using a EasyICD2 which I picked up from ebay for £30, it is fully compatitble with a normal ICD2 (except has no usb) and works reasonable well. Im currently having issues programing devices with it, fails verification, i think its a power issue, but i wouldn't recommend them to people until i sort this out.

The other icd2 clone i know about is this one, they work pretty well, doesnt have the verification issues mine has, and they are pretty cheap. Just bear in mind they come from hongkong so take a while to arrive!! and you might get hit with import tax, but they are still a lot cheaper than a full ICD2. Just be aware to check the seller history if you go via the ebay route, ive had no issues thought just things take a while to arrive (1-2 weeks normaly).

If you search for a clone icd, watch out for the usb powered ones as they wont work via the usb, and just use the usb for the power.

Just a final note, the clones tend to only use rs232, which is significantly slowler than the usb, if you have a large hex file, so might be worth considering if you are going to use it a lot.

Hey, The only place I can think of which sells them on the high street is maplins, but they are somewhat more expensive than online, and they wont have a clue about using them. You will be lucky for them to have one in your local shop, but they should be able to order one in for you, let me know if you find anywhere else which sells them.

Mat you are right, the price is expensive, but I will be in London in April for holiday and I will buy it without delivery charge.
Many thanks again...

Fair enough, you will probably have to order it in, it is not the sort of thing they are likely to have available on the shop floor. You might find it cheaper to order it direct from microchip, including delivery btw. Mat

Buying from USA I must pay 30Euro more for tax.
A solution can be to purchase directly from a Microchip's European Site; thanks to the European market I don't need to pay tax.
