I am using the HID mouse example on a veroboard. The behaviour is rather erratic, Sometimes the device gets enumerated correctly and sometimes i get the "device not recognised", at this point Vusb drops to 3.05V from 3.35V when working correctly. Is there anything extra i need to do when working on veroboard cause i think the firmware is OK.
Am using 300nF between Vusb and VDD , and 100nF between VSS and VDD. The device is bus powered.
The picusbdemo circuit seems to suggest both VSS and VDD are connected to power supply or is it me

Am not sure, but probably your problem is the board. Is Veroboard a Breadboard or real PCB? I had no troubles with USB PICs on even ugly PCBs, but if connections are not good you may experience that problem.
Or you can also add some 10-22uF cap across 5V VCC.
